In Bolivia, a papal speech designed to echo around the world

Pope Francis delivered a speech Thursday that was not only intended to please his Bolivian audience but to shake the consciences of people around the world. It’s worth reading in its entirety (an English translation, provided by Father Thomas Rosica, is below.) The pope called unfettered capitalism the “dung of the devil” and told his listeners: “Our faith is revolutionary, because our faith challenges the tyranny of mammon.” Labor, lodging and land, he said, are “sacred rights” that cannot be denied the poor.
